35 MacKay Street & 71 Thomas Street
We recently had the opportunity to complete the stair systems for two fully restored semi-detached homes in the heart of New Edinburgh. These side-by-side projects beautifully balance historic character with modern design, resulting in spaces that feel both timeless and refined.
The homes were brought to life by Big Rock Management, with interior design by Deidre of Eastboro Designs. Their thoughtful approach ensured every detail felt cohesive, elevated, and true to the character of the homes.

Thoughtful Stair Design
For both residences, the staircases were designed to complement the classic architecture while maintaining a fresh, clean aesthetic. The result is a look that feels both traditional and contemporary, perfectly suited to the charm of New Edinburgh.

Stair Details
Each home features:
- Modern wood handrails
- 3½” square wood posts with square two-piece caps
- 1¼” square white spindles for a crisp, contemporary appearance
- 1″ square-profile treads finished with square flat trim
- Painted risers and stringers for a seamless, polished finish
The combination of painted structural elements and solid wood components creates a beautiful balance of contrast and warmth, allowing the staircases to stand out while remaining understated and timeless.
